Cosmetic Procedures

  1. Treatment of Vaginal Dryness & Atrophy

Hormonal changes around the time of menopause and in the postpartum period often lead to vaginal dryness. This can be associated with symptoms of itching, irritation, and painful intercourse.
This condition of vaginal atrophy can be safely and effectively treated with local application of estrogen which is available in the form of a cream, a tablet or a vaginal ring.
For women who need or prefer to avoid hormones, there are now non-hormonal treatment options available as well.
Thermiva is an in-office procedure which uses a wand to deliver heat to the vaginal tissues. By stimulating collagen and new blood vessels, it replenishes the natural moisture and lubrication of the vagina.

  2. Vaginoplasty

Vaginoplasty is an outpatient surgical procedure to tighten the vaginal canal and vaginal opening. This restores proper support to the pelvic organs.

  3. Labiaplasty

The skin of the inner labia may be longer on one or both sides, and women often find that this causes discomfort or pain during intercourse or even gets caught on clothing and underwear.
Labiaplasty is a procedure to reshape the skin of the outer vagina. This can include the inner or outer labia or both together. Dr. Nelken offers surgical and non-surgical options for labiaplasty. Both procedures are performed outpatient.

  4. Platelet-Rich Plasma

Platelets play a key role in the body’s healing process by releasing growth factors. By process of centrifuging your own blood, we are able to obtain plasma with a very high concentration of platelets, called “platelet-rich plasma” or PRP.
Many women find that injection of PRP into their vagina and G-spot increases sensitivity and arousal during intercourse and improves orgasms.

  5. ThermiVa®

ThermiVa treats vaginal dryness, some forms of urinary incontinence, and mild pelvic organ prolapse. It can also tighten the entire length of the vagina and smooth the labial skin. It works by delivering heat to the vaginal tissues, thereby stimulating collagen and new blood vessel growth.
Treatments are performed in office, and sessions last approximately 30 minutes each with very little discomfort or downtime. In fact, sexual relations can be resumed the same day. In order to see noticeable improvements, 3 sessions are required, 4-6 weeks apart.
Women who have undergone ThermiVa treatments report improvement in all of the following:
    –  Vaginal moisture
    –  Urinary incontinence
    –  Cosmetic appearance of the labia
    –  Vaginal tightening
    –  Sexual pleasure

  6. MonaLisa®

The Mona Lisa Touch treatment uses a CO2 fractional laser to treat vaginal dryness caused by menopause.  Three treatments are required, 4-6 weeks apart.  The procedure works by stimulating collagen synthesis in the vagina.  Each session takes only a couple minutes, and there is minimal pain or downtime.

Postpartum Pelvic Floor Rejuvenation

  1. Childbirth can weaken pelvic floor muscles, leading to urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, or decreased sexual enjoyment. Depending on your desires, Dr. Nelken offers non-surgical and surgical approaches to pelvic floor rejuvenation and postpartum mommy makeovers.

  2. Pelvic Floor Muscle Strengthening

Strengthening of the pelvic floor muscles during and after pregnancy can help prevent serious pelvic floor dysfunction later in life.
Following a full evaluation, Dr. Nelken will develop an exercise regimen to address your specific needs. This will consist of a series of private training sessions designed to strengthen your muscles and rehabilitate your pelvic floor. You will be taught to perform these exercises independently so that you can easily incorporate them into your busy life with your new baby.

  3. Nonsurgical Vaginal Rejuvenation

Your vagina may look or feel different following childbirth. The vaginal opening and vaginal canal can now be tightened without surgery. ThermiVa uses heat to stimulate formation of new collagen. This results in tightening of the vaginal opening and vaginal canal. It can also improve lubrication and improve symptoms of urinary incontinence.

  4. Surgical Vaginal Rejuvenation

The pelvic floor muscles often stretch and tear during childbirth. This can be repaired with a simple outpatient surgical procedure, which will have the effect of tightening the vaginal canal and vaginal opening, and restoring support to the pelvic floor organs. This may be performed in conjunction with labiaplasty if desired.

  5. Decreased Libido Following Childbirth

The postpartum period is a major transition for any family, and women commonly feel decreased sexuality. This is generally due to a number of different factors, including hormonal changes, sleep deprivation, and physical changes following childbirth. Whatever the underlying cause, Dr. Nelken can help you reclaim your sexuality.

  6. Postpartum "Mommy Makeover"

Typically includes surgical or non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation, and if needed a procedure to treat urinary incontinence, and possibly a treatment to improve libido. Often the confidence that comes with restoring your pelvic anatomy will also improve libido, but other times separate treatments are needed to address this important component of sexual health.
